Climate Change
The concentrations of greenhouse gasses (CO2, CH4, N2O, SF6, HFK’s, PKF’s) have increased since the pre-industrial period under influence of human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and land use change. Due to the increase of greenhouse gasses, the mean temperature on earth increased by 0.6 °C during the 20th century. Future scenario’s predict a world wide temperature increase. The mean sea level at the Belgian coast raised by 0.1-0.2 m and will further rise.
Species will shift their seasonal activities (oviposition, bud burst, end of hibernation, timing of migratory birds) and geographical distribution. Many species will not be able to adapt and go extinct.
